DAY 4 OF CZECH TRIP
It was
SHOWTIME! JUDGEMENT DAY. after the first category the spirits of the girls especially was down. our "Ave Verum Corpus" wasn't our best. so we really stepped up for the mixed youth superior category. there was a huge interval before the results were announced in the evening. so we ate our packed lunch which was a long sandwich which pickles and lotsa mayo!
YUMMY! when i was changing into my shoes at the fountain, a huge wind blew my shoebox and stockings away and they were scattered around the square. i was being stupid by hopping around in my courtshoes trying to catch them. aiping, mehmeh, shannon, hanh, eunice, weiling, yuchen and the whole gang then went for more ice cream! this time i tried the whiskey flavoured one at another shop. that was damn
sinful.soon it was time for the results and all of us huddled at the square with kenny waving the Singapore flag high above the ground.
we scored 95/100 for mixed youth, 96/100 for male chorus and 96/100 for mixed youth superior! a clean sweep of gold in all three categories! we emerged winners for the male chorus and mixed youth superior categories! and raffles only beat us to the mixed youth category where they had 100/100. but who cares! we topped the superior one which they were too scared to participate in!
the vocal consort had 100/100 in both categories! PERFECT! nelson had 5 golds! and to top it all off the male chorus and vocal consort got into the grand finals against rjc, 2 other Czech choirs and a boys choir from Lithuania. everyone was screaming, crying and hugging each other when the results were announced! our hard work had really paid off.
Mr Nelson Kwei is really really
damn pro and talented and he was really proud of us and happy. apparently he cried too! aww! he really didn't expect it. as we posed for group pictures we felt like stars once again. everyone was taking pictures of us! and our tour guide was
flooded with many camera dangling from both her arms. as we walked through the streets people were cheering "Singapore" and congratulating us.
a nun and an old Czech woman tapped my back and told me that we were excellent! by the way, anderson secondary school and katong convent also competed there and the were present at the square. but we were the ultimate winners of the evening! at the grand finals, the top 6 of more than 200 choirs from all over the world pulled out their best performances.
it was the creme de la creme as Mr Kwei put it. each judge will give a vote to the choir he feels is the best of the best. in the end, the boys choir from Lithuania which was made up of cute boys, young ones and teens, tall ones and short, emerged as the absolute champions. they really deserved to win it with their rendition of "The Lion Sleeps Tonight". Raffles came in 2nd and some girls started crying. i guess they're just too competitive. Vocal Consort came in 3rd. the grand finals was broadcasted live on Czech tv. you can still catch us on www.live.cz click on video and then on "festa musicale olomouc".
as you can see this day was
really really looonnngg. but it didn't end there. there was some victory party held at our hotel hall and other choirs could come and party too. there were free drinks, alcoholic ones too and dancing. shannon, eunice and alot of others decided to have a chill out session back at the rooms. so aiping, mehmeh and i went to the dancefloor and there we saw rjc and many of our seniors partying. i redeemed the coupon for a bottle of coke and i decided to join in the dancing. bad song choices though. many eurobeat, oldies and unknown tunes were played including the chicken dance song. i slow danced with Weiling for Celine Dion's "The Power of Love" and Mr Low showed off his smooth dance steps. Ms Quek was being lifted into the air countlessly by men. once again people were cheering "Singapore" and congratulating us.
so i decided to retire to the chairs with amellia and guess what? one of the seniors came up with i think his 3rd glass of the free alcoholic drink and he gulped it all down in
one shot and glided into the dance floor like a he was hanging on to a clothes hanger (in amellia's words) and he
blended in perfectly. omg!! omfg! he was drunk and high. then out of nowhere a european guy in his 20s came up to me and extended his hand for a dance. he was quite good looking. i was dumbfounded! my dancing totally sucked so i nudged the girl next to me. i think it was amellia. but she didn't want to dance. so i had no choice but to get my arse off the chair and dance with him to an oldie called "Paloma Blanca". he was spinning me everywhere. arrgghh!! i got fed up and tired. after the dance he thanked me and i staggered back to the table where Mr Tan was and i wiped my sweaty palms which smelt like cigarettes! eeeewww! Mr Tan asked me to wash my hands.
i've really had enough by then and i went back to the hotel room with some others. it was there when things got freaky as some of our seniors were drunk and people were sitting in the corridor eating while music was blasting out of one of the rooms. shannon was video taping them and aiping was singing along. i felt
really exhausted and i went to bathe and sleep.
